88 Persons Have Been Killed In Bauchi Fire

Statistics from Bauchi State Fire Service has revealed that no fewer than 88 lives have been lost to fire in the state between January and September this year.
Acting Director of the state’s Fire Service, Babayo Misau, gave the statistics on Monday in his office; he said N60 million worth of property were also destroyed during the same period.

The major cause of the fire, Misau said, was electric faults and he noted that his men were able to save about 100 lives trapped in the fire and recovered N110 million from the various fire incidents in the state. In his words, “In February alone, fire killed about 43 persons and 19 other persons were saved, while properties worth over N35 million were recovered.

“Sixteen persons were killed in January and nine lives were saved, while properties worth N10 million were destroyed and properties worth N19 million recovered.”
The Fire Service boss then advised members of the public to always switch off their electrical appliances at night before going to sleep, noting that from January to date, the service had received 265 calls from individuals related to fire in the state.
