Former President George H.W Bush Hospitalized...Reports

Former President George H. W. Bush has been hospitalized in The Methodist Hospital in Houston for the past week with what his staff confirms is bronchitis and a chronic cough.

Jim McGrath, a Bush spokesman,  told ABC News that the 88-year-old former president has not developed pneumonia or any life-threatening condition and is expected to be released over the coming weekend. Bush is “sitting up, moving and walking as much as he can to help his recovery,” Dr. Amy Mynderse, an internal medicine physician in charge of his care, said in a hospital news release.

Operation Kick Civilians out of Army Barracks Nationwide

The eviction of non-soldiers from barracks is coming on the heels of two successful attacks by suspected terrorists in the first two days of this week.

Two car bombers had on Sunday struck at the St. Andrew Military Protestant Church inside the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College, in Jaji, near Kaduna. The college houses the officers and men of the Infantry Centre and School as well as the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre .

Also on Monday, gunmen, numbering 40, launched an attack on the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Abuja, where suspects were being held. Two policemen and one of the gunmen were killed in the incident.

The eldest daughter of General Muhammadu Buhari; Zulaihatu has Passed on

Zulai, the first daughter of former Head of State and a former presidential candidate, Maj-Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is dead.

She died on Thursday evening after delivering a baby in Nasara Hospital,Marafa Estate in Kaduna.
Nigerians only got to know the 40-year-old lady after her death.

Zulaiha, who was born on December 5, 1972, studied at the Department of Economics Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

She left behind Amira, Moh’d and the two-day-old baby girl.

Unfortunately she was sickle cell.

Fashola arrests policeman riding Okada on restricted road

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, arrested a police officer who rode his 100 CC commercial motorcycle on the Agege Motor Road, Ikeja in defiance of the traffic law.

It would be recalled that the state governor, on August 2, signed into law the road traffic law which restricted the activities of Okada operators on 475 roads in the metropolis.

Chinedu Onyeuku, 29, was trying to break into a home in Plano on November 21 and was shot and killed by the homeowner, police say.

Unilag Final Year Student Dies Of Stray Bullet

Olaleye Sunday Olanrewaju known as Honorable LAS is a final year Accounting student of DLI in Unilag.
He was hit by a stray bullet on Saturday, 24th of Nov. on his way to church at Sango Ota during a robbery incident.

His family members have described him as a gentle, easy going man, Miss. Titilayo, one of his course mates said he was a fine, small but very intelligent and vibrant man.
He will be greatly missed by all, she said. He was laid to rest today in his hometown. May his soul rest in peace.

Boko Haram writes FG asking for dialogue

 The Islamist militant group,  Boko Haram,  has distributed a letter requesting dialogue  with the Federal  Government.

The letter, which was  sent through head of journalists in Borno State, Aba Kakami, came less than 72 hours after a double suicide bombing  led to the death of  at least 17 people at the Protestant Military Church, Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, Kaduna State.
Kakami  has often received and distributed statements from the sect.

Unknown Gunmen Attack SARS Headquarters...Reports

Gunmen on Monday attacked the premises of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Abuja freeing prisoners and killing two police officers.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who said the attack on SARS compound began around 2am on Monday, with a “large number” of gunmen killing the officers and allowing about 30 prisoners inside the facility to escape.

Dr Joseph Murray, the surgeon who carried out the first successful kidney transplant and later won a Nobel Prize for his work, has died at the age of 93.
Dr Murray died in Boston on Monday after suffering a stroke last Thursday.
Murray and his team completed the first human organ transplant in 1954, taking a kidney from one identical twin and giving it to his twin brother, opening a new field in medicine.
More than 600,000 people worldwide have received transplants since Murray's innovation.

Ex BBA housemates DKB from Ghana and Zainab from Sierre Leone were disqualified from the BBA house in June for getting physical with each other. DKB later released a song apologising to Zainab and Africa for his behaviour.

The Ghanaian comedian and radio presenter apologised once more to Zainab on Live TV in Ghana yesterday. The former housemates appeared together on Viasat’s ‘The One Show’ with Joselyn Dumas and PY Addo, where DKB apologised then went down on his knees and kissed Zainab's feet.

Collapsed building in Lagos kills two sisters

A building located in Low Cost Housing Estate, otherwise called Jakande estate, in Oke-Ake-Afa, Isolo area of  Lagos, collapsed, yesterday, killing two graduate sisters.

The mother of the dead girls, identified as Mrs Coker, a widow, who was brought out of the debris alive was, however, in coma yesterday. Affected were flats 2, 4 and 6 of the six flat low-cost houses built over 30 years ago.

The building, Block M20, according to eye witnesses started showing cracks and sinking over a year ago. The tragic incident as gathered, occurred at about midnight causing  a deafening sound.

J.T Kolo: Former Nigerian ambassador to the UK dies after bathroom accident

Ambassador J.T Kolo, a former Nigerian ambassador to the United Kingdom during IBB's regime died yesterday morning after slipping in his bathroom. Ambassador Kolo was by himself when the incident occurred. He was found dead hours later by a domestic staff inside his Minna, Niger State home. He was 74.

EFCC Arrests Bi-Courtney Boss Wale Babalakin for Laundering N2billion

The Chief Executive Officer of Bi-Courtney Ltd, Wale Babalakin, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was alleged to have helped in facilitating the siphoning about N2 billion belonging to Delta State on behalf of former Governor James Ibori. 

This is coming a few days after a concessionary agreement between Bi- Courtney and federal government on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway was terminated by government. EFCC sources in Abuja confirmed that the charges were filed against Babalakin today at a Lagos High Court in Ikeja.

 One of the hostels at Medical School LUTH, block 6, was gutted by fire around 9am this morning. No lives were lost but properties and other valuables were destroyed in the inferno that lasted for over an hour before it was put out by the fire service.

Unilorin offers courses in Chinese language

The University of Ilorin on Tuesday said it would commence teaching of Chinese (Mandarin) language.
The University, which resolved the issue at its 23rd meeting of the Senate held in Ilorin, said that preparation for the take off of the course was in the pipe line.

The University’s Director, Corporate Affairs Department, Mr Idris Akogun, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the introduction of Mandarin was to prepare students for a fast changing global and political economy.

He said that the university would teach Mandarin as one of the foreign languages learnt in the institution.
He added that apart from Nigerian languages, the university also offered instructions at degree and non degree level in foreign languages.

“These languages are French, German and Spanish. Mandarin is the latest addition of the languages to be taught at Unilorin,’’ he said.

Bi-Courtney Highway Services has said it has not been formally notified of the decision of the Federal Government to cancel its concession agreement to reconstruct the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Reacting to Monday’s termination of the agreement, the company said, “We have not been formally informed about the cancellation of the concession agreement and the process that led to it.”

Medical sources told SaharaReporters that Mr Meni, who was said to be in his late 40s, was flown in from Bayelsa last week to receive treatment at the Aso Rock Clinic for undisclosed ailment he had been battling with for a few months now.

Police in India have arrested a woman they say criticised on Facebook the shutdown of the city of Mumbai after the death of politician Bal Thackeray.

A woman friend who “liked” the comment was also arrested, they said.
The women, accused of “hurting religious sentiments”, were released on bail after appearing in court in the town of Palghar, police told the BBC.

He was reportedly shot in the head at Sabo, Sagamu, Ogun State, at about 9.00 p.m. on Sunday after leaving Sagamu Town Club where he had gone for a meeting and was heading for his country home in Ijebu-Aiyepe, Odogbolu Local Council.

FG Suspends Bi-Courtney’s Lagos-Ibadan road contract

The Federal Government yesterday Monday November 19th terminated its concession agreement with Wale Babalakin's Bi-Courtney Nigeria Limited on the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

The government said they terminated the contract 'as a result of serial breaching of the terms' of the deal by Bi-Courtney. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) in May 2009 awarded the concessionaire contract for the expressway for 25 years to Bi-Courtney, which was expected to upgrade the highway with over N80 billion and recoup the investment by tolling the road, but they couldn't deliver.

The contract has been awarded to both Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and R.C.C Nigeria Limited, and they have been directed to commence work immediately on the road.
