Abuja Zonal Head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja, Ishaya Chonoko, confirmed the incident saying, two dead bodies were recovered and six persons who were injured following the crash have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
He added that two houses were completely razed while 27 shops were burnt after the tanker exploded.
Also, eight traditional rulers and three trade unionists from the Dutse Emirate Council of Jigawa State died in a ghastly motor accident.
NEMA confirmed that the accident, which occurred at Tsafe Council of Zamfara State claimed seven lives on the spot while the other four died in the hospital.
Four persons who were said to be critically injured are receiving treatment at Danmasara Specialist Hospital Dutse.
The victims were on their way to Arugungun, Kebbi State for a wedding of one of the village heads when their driver lost control.
Meanwhile a team of officials from NEMA at the weekend was in Nguru and Gashua Council of Yobe State to assess damages caused by heavy rain that rendered residents homeless and destroyed farmlands.
While inspecting the areas, the Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, told the traditional rulers in the area to brace up to climatic challenges and mobilise their people to take proactive measures against future recurrence of the calamity.
