24yr Old Currency Courier Man Arrested By EFCC For Trying To Export N1b Cash Out Of Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) two days ago arrested one Abubakar Tijani Sheriff, whom it described as a bulk currency smuggler, as he attempted to smuggle $7million out of the country. The EFCC said in a statement yesterday that Sheriff, 24, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos en route Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as he boarded his flight.

Patience Jonathan battles Parkinson’s disease – Sahara Reporters

Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is battling an onset of Parkinson’s disease that has complicated her recovery from a surgical procedure in Germany, several reliable sources have disclosed to SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters broke the news that Mrs. Jonathan was flown to a hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany close to a month ago to undergo emergency treatment after a botched procedure in Dubai.

In interviews with three sources familiar with Mrs. Jonathan’s health status, SaharaReporters learnt that the Nigerian president’s wife is beset by Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative syndrome. The disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system. A medical source described it as “a fairly common disorder that occasions degeneration of the nervous system.” The source added that the disease leads to “progressive impairment and disorder of movement.” An online medical site notes that Parkinson’s “is characterized by progressive loss of muscle control, which leads to trembling of the limbs and head while at rest, stiffness, slowness, and impaired balance. As symptoms worsen, it may become difficult to walk, talk, and complete simple tasks.”

British, Chinese among 19 dead in Nepal plane crash

A small plane struck a bird and crashed shortly after takeoff from the Nepali capital of Kathmandu on Friday, killing 19 people, including seven British and five Chinese passengers, officials said.

The crash of the propeller-driven Dornier aircraft was the sixth fatal air accident in less than two years in Nepal, where more than a dozen small private carriers often brave bad weather to fly to mountain areas served by no proper road network.

Police Coroporal To Die By Hanging For Killing 3 Year Old Girl

For unlawful shooting and killing of a three year old girl,an Ikeja High Court in Lagos, on Thursday sentenced a police officer, Ikechukwu Nwabueze, to death by hanging.
 
Nwabueze, who was arraigned on June 15, 2010 by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, had pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him but after much investigations, Justice Olabisi Akinlade, found the 35-year-old former policeman guilty of murder charge.

Saudi Arabia Deports Another 512 Pilgrims

The government of Saudi Arabia Thursday deported another batch of 512 pilgrims to Nigeria, a day after deporting 171 women.

Saudi Arabian authorities deport 171 Nigerian pilgrims...Show Of Shame

Following the Federal Government 24 hours’ ultimatum to Saudi authorities to release the 400 Nigerian female pilgrims detained in the country, another 171 pilgrims from Taraba and Katsina States were yesterday sent back from the country.

It was gathered that the Max Air, one of the national carriers, had to turn back with 171 female pilgrims from Medina after the Saudis denied them entry into the country on the excuse that none of them was accompanied by their husbands or approved male partners. As at Wednesday night, Saudi authorities were still threatening to deport the pilgrims, who were from Jigawa and Sokoto States.

A woman in Texas made one thing very clear on Tuesday morning – don’t mess with her cats.
42-year-old Audrey Deen Miller shot her husband in the stomach after he threatened to shoot one of her beloved pets, according to deputy constables.
Miller was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
 
Deputies said Miller and her husband were arguing at their home in Spring at around 7:30 a.m. when he threatened to shoot her cat with a pellet gun.
Miller, an animal lover with several cats and dogs, pulled out a .40-calibre semi-automatic handgun and shot her husband in the stomach.
 
“The husband was trying to do something to the cat and the wife was just trying to protect her cat,” said Assistant Chief Mark Herman.
Miller was arrested at the scene and her husband was transported tohospital in stable condition.

Man Caught Red Handed Raping a 100-Year-Old Woman in Embu, Kenya

A 35-year-old man fled after he was caught raping a woman almost three times his age in Embu West district in Kenya.

The elderly woman was reportedly ambushed by a man in her mud-walled house last weekend and sexually harassed by a sex starved pervert. The elderly woman is 100-years-old.

According to the woman’s grand-daughter, the man came looking for her brother, but was told the person he was looking for was not around and was ushered outside the compound.

However at the wee hours of the night, the family heard commotions in the elderly woman’s house which is just adjacent to the main house. When they went there, they found a man punding on their granny. They hit the pervert with a panga before the man took of into the darkness. The matter has been reported to the police.

Embu Deputy Police Boss confirmed the incident and said they are relying on the description given by the grand-daughter to search for the criminal.

NNPC SUPPLIES ADDITIONAL 4M LITRES OF PETROL

As part of concerted efforts to stop fuel queues across the country, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has revealed that additional four million litres of premium motor spirit (petrol) has been released to marketers from the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC).

The Group Managing Director of the NNPC,Mr. Andrew Yakubu, made this known  during a meeting  with members  of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

Represented by the Group Executive Director, Corporate Services, Dr. Peter Nmadu, the GMD said the Corporation in its bid to keep the nation wet with petrol after the rupturing of the System 2B Pipeline at Arepo by vandals, made alternative arrangements for products distribution by diverting petroleum products to some private depots in Lagos for onward trucking to petrol stations.

He said the NNPC had relied on massive trucking of the products across the country to ameliorate the pains of motorists in the country, adding that one-third of the nation's daily fuel consumption was pumped through the System 2B Pipeline that was ruptured.

'In order to alleviate the hardship being inflicted on Nigerians by the product thieves who ruptured the NNPC System 2B Pipeline at Arepo, the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company is supplying additional four million litres of fuel to bridge the gap and ease the hiccup,' he said.

Pictures Of Flood Disaster In Lokoja

The images were released by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and shows the extent of the flooding in the city caused by the overflowing River Niger, which is virtually cutting off the Northern part of the country from the South. A lot of small villages in Lokoja and Kogi will soon be wiped out if nothing is done soon. The flooding has left many dead, thousands homeless, and movement from one place to the other impossible.

The flooding started about two weeks ago after Cameroon released water from the Lagdo Dam.
The minister of works said that the level of water seen in the past two weeks has not been seen in the last 100 years.

Bus driver arrested for assaulting LASTMA official

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old bus driver for setting the interior of his bus ablaze and assaulting a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority official.
