In
a world where religion tolerance is preached, a 56 year old
Isreali-American, Sam Bacile might have bitten more than he can chew as
his youtube movie has been blamed for the protests around diplomatic
posts in Libya and Egypt, which culminated into the attack on the US
embassy in Lybia, and led to the death of US ambassador to Libya.
The
film titled “Innocence of Muslims” was earlier posted on YouTube and
was later reposted after being translated into Arabic. The clip, an
amateurish production featuring dozens of actors, portrays Prophet
Muhammad, believed by Muslims to be God’s prophet, as a womanizer, a
homosexual and a child abuser.
“This
is a political movie,” the AP quoted him as saying. “The U.S. lost a
lot of money and a lot of people in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but
we’re fighting with ideas.”
The
Nigerian Police have responded to this development by beefing up
security in the Northern part of the country to ensure extremists don’t
take advantage of Bacile’s video to cause chaos in the land.
Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Wednesday said in addition to placing all police formations in the country on high alert, “the AIG in charge of Intelligence and Commissioners of Police in charge of the various Police Special Squads such as the Counter Terrorism Unit, Police Mobile Force and Special Protection Unit have been directed to ensure that their personnel are strategically deployed to prevent and nip all potential crisis in the bud.”
The statement quoted the IG as assuring law abiding Nigerians of the readiness and capacity of the police to provide adequate security for them and their property.
