JTF gun down 14 suspected kidnappers in Rivers

                                     The Joint Task Force have killed 13 members of a gang suspected of abducting a Turkish man in an early morning raid on their hideout in oil-producing Rivers state, police said on Saturday.

A 20 million naira ($127,600) ransom was paid for the release of Bayram Karakus, who worked for the Rivigo Construction company, Rivers police spokesman Ben Ugwuegbulam told a news agency.

'My ex-wife killed my son; wants me dead' - Nollywood Actor, John Okafor

In January 2011, popular Nollywood actor John Okafor's wife and 1 year old son, Mandela Okafor (both pictured above), were kidnapped and held in captivity for 10 days. Then exactly one year later, 2 year old Mandela died in mysterious circumstances. John Okafor later revealed in an interview that his son died from food poisoning.

In an interview with Entertainment Express yesterday, Mr Okafor accused his ex-wife of poisoning Mandela and also trying to kill him. What he said below:

"My ex-wife and her cohorts planned and kidnapped my wife and child; they were later released after 10 days. I paid the ransom and they came home twelve hours later. That child died a year later through poison. The facts later came out but I don't want to act on it now. She has made several attempts on my life and that of my immediate family. You will be surprised the day you hear what really happened, but I don't want to go into details now'

Soldiers kill about 40 in Maiduguri: residents

Dozens of young men have been shot dead in Nigeria by the military in Maiduguri, residents in the north-eastern city have told the BBC.

An imam told the BBC about 11 youths from his street alone were killed, including four of his own sons.

The alleged extrajudicial executions happened as Amnesty International accused the security forces of abuses in its crackdown on Islamist militants.

A military spokesman in Maiduguri said he was not aware of the incident.

Police Brutality: Okada Rider beaten and Stripped Naked

                           

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim was caught while riding at the junction of University Road and St. Finbarr’s College Road in Akoka.

He stated that the man was plying the route oblivious that plain-clothes policemen had laid ambush in a van with registration number NPF9544B, in the area.

The eyewitness said immediately the policemen saw the okada rider, they pounced on him, beat him up and later asked him to take all his clothes off.

They stopped the inhuman treatment after people around gathered at the scene and begged them to stop.

Ex-councillor stabs teenager for refusing advances

                                

A former councillor of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, is currently being detained at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl in the neck after she refused his advances at a night club.

On October 26, Mariam Abubakar (pictured above) went to Pearl Habour Night Club in Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac to “catch weekend fun.” Her friend, who pleaded anonymity, said they only went there “to hang out” when Babatunde, who was obviously drunk, started to make advances to Abubakar.

Abandoned sisters face ejection from one-room apartment

                               

The expectation of most parents is that when they attain certain ages that they can no longer fend for themselves, their children will be there to provide the necessary support.

But for aged siblings- Ibijoke Apena and Janeth Eruwayo- who are living in a dingy one-room apartment, their case is a different kettle of fish. They have been abandoned by their children and relations.

At 8, Amusan Street, Rogo, along Iju-Ishaga Road, Lagos State, where they live, the two sisters have become nuisance to other tenants.

Wife of Former Governor of Akwa Ibom Passes on

The wife of the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Allison Attah is dead. Mrs Attah died in a Lagos hospital around 3:30pm on Monday after she lost a six-year battle to a terminal kidney condition. She is originally from Barbados.

Nollywood Veterant actor Pete Eneh loses one leg to illness

According to reports, veteran actor  Pete Eneh has lost one of his legs to illness. Doctors at Parklane Hospital Enugu had no choice but to amputate one of his legs in order to save his life.

The veteran actor was said to have sustained some kind of injury last year, and because he didn't take proper care of it, it led to serious infection that became hard to treat. The injury was said to have degenerated to a sore and because Mr Eneh was diabetic, it refused to heal. He spent three months at the hospital before he was advised to amputate the leg before the infection spread to other parts of his body.

The amputation took place on Wednesday October 24th after all efforts to save the leg was unsuccessful. Pete Eneh is said to be dealing with it well.

Two senators and ex-governor under IG's watch over alledged Boko Haram Sponsors

                        

Two Senators and a former governor are currently under surveillance with a view to determining their alleged involvement in the activities of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, said on Wednesday.

The three, according to Abubakar, are Senators Ahmed Zanna and Ali Ndume, and a former Governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff.

The IG added that investigators were collating evidence on their alleged sponsorship of Boko Haram with a view to prosecuting them.
